Purpose of the Role
As part of the launch of operations in Nigeria, the HR Director will play a critical role in establishing and structuring the local entity from a human resources perspective.
In this key leadership position, the HR Director will design, implement, and oversee all HR frameworks, policies, and processes. The role covers the full employee lifecycle and ensures alignment between local requirements and global standards.
The successful candidate combines strong operational HR expertise with strategic leadership capability and the ability to build a robust, compliant, and high-performing organization from the ground up
Key Responsibilities
1. HR Strategy & Governance
- Design and implement all HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local labor laws and alignment with global HR standards.
- Collaborate closely with the Group HR function to ensure consistency in HR practices while adapting to local regulations and market standards.
- Develop and implement a recruitment and selection strategy aligned with business objectives and workforce planning needs.
- Define and manage the HR budget, ensuring efficient and responsible allocation of resources.
- Ensure fairness, equity, and consistency in people management and reward practices.
- Propose and adapt compensation and benefits structures in line with local market conditions and within Group guidelines to attract and retain talent.
- Ensure HR activities are fully aligned with quality management systems, health & safety standards, and all legal requirements.
2. Talent & Organizational Development
- Partner with senior leadership and management on workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational design.
- Oversee employee training and development programs to enhance capabilities and support career growth.
- Drive performance management processes and foster a strong performance-oriented culture.
- Analyze HR metrics and reporting to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Employee Relations & Compliance
- Manage employee relations matters and facilitate conflict resolution where required.
- Liaise with national institutions and authorities on HR-related matters (e.g., social security, labor administration).
- Ensure full compliance with local legal requirements across the employee lifecycle.
- Oversee all aspects of the employee lifecycle, from onboarding to exit management.
Profile – Knowledge & Skills
- 10-15 years of progressive HR experience, including senior HR leadership roles, ideally within an international or matrix organization.
- Proven experience in building or structuring HR frameworks in a growing or newly established entity is a strong advantage.
- Strong expertise in talent management, recruitment, employee engagement, and compensation & benefits.
- Solid knowledge of Nigerian labor law and HR regulatory requirements.
- Experience working with HR information systems; familiarity with SuccessFactors is a plus.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken). Fluent in at least 2 major local dialects.
